Travel Award for Enterprise

 

 

The SJNoble trust was created in 2003 in memory of Johnny Noble the founder of Loch Fyne Oysters. The purpose of the trust is to assist people to set up  new  or expand  existing small businesses within the Argyll and Islands area. So far the trust has made 50 grants with a combined total value of £ 300,000.

In the earliest days of setting up the Oyster farm Johnny Noble and his partner Andy Lane travelled  to France to gain knowledge and develop their  ideas.

The SJN Travel Awards are designed to encourage individuals with business ideas  to travel, both at home and abroad, and study areas that may help them develop  their new or existing business.

A Travel Award of up to £1500 may be made and is available to help with cost of travel and subsistence or with the cost of staffing an existing business whilst absent.

The Format

 

The criteria. The trustees will be looking for dynamic  indviduals where their new or existing business will gain most from research and  travel. They will favour business ideas which create or secure employment and are  environmentaly responsible. Ideas which may have a wider benefit to a sector or a community would also be treated favourably.

A short list of applicants will be selected and you should be prepared to attend a short interview.

Following the award and  the resulting travel the recipient will be asked to write and present a short report on his or her travel  detailing how it benefitted  the new or existing business.
