In October 2017 we provided a loan of £15k to the Helmi family, Syrian refugees who had been relocated to the Isle of Bute. When we recently visited Helmi’s in Rothesay, it was clearly flourishing and all the tables were occupied. They are providing a wide range of traditional patisserie items and cakes as well as lunchtime soup and rolls served alongside quality coffee and teas. Their prices are surprisingly low, but this strategy is clearly building up a loyal base of customers who seem to have a good repartee with the owners. They have already won several Scottish Baker awards including finalist of Bakery Café. |
